Palawan was recently voted the world’s best island by readers of Conde Nast Traveler. How unfair is that? Palawan is both an island province and an archipelago of over 1700 islands. It makes sense, then, that other islands don’t stand a chance. It is known for the Puerto Princesa Underground River, the world’s longest navigable subterranean river; and the diver’s haven Tubbataha Reef, accessible only by liveaboard. Both are inscribed as World Heritage Sites. Two island groups are popular for island hopping: the Calamianes islands off the town of Coron and Bacuit Bay archipelago off El Nido town. It was in the latter that I found my favourite little island in the world, Miniloc, home to Small Lagoon, Big Lagoon and Secret Lagoon. In a word, divine.
