“You have to visit Dusun Bambu,” insisted the hotel staff at Mercure Bandung Setiabudi, where I stayed for a hotel review. It was a good thing that I listened. Who would have known that such a place existed up in the highlands outside the city of Bandung? Here on the Indonesian island of East Java lies a new wonder that inspires selfies and family outings. Dusun Bambu, literally “Bamboo Village”, is a family leisure park that blends the 6Es: Ecology, Education, Economy, Ethnology, Ethics, and Esthetics. And judging from the response, it is a success. Now I just need someone to explain to me the Sundanese legends behind the names of the places within it.
